FEEDING THE HOMELESS IN DILWORTH
FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1200 EAST BOULEVARD 704.334.3771
DILWORTH NEIGHBORHOOD SOUP KITCHEN

What a wonderful experience having lunch at The Soup Kitchen in Dilworth last week. It felt so good to be there we didn’t want to leave. There is something about being in the presence of loving people giving to lovely people that makes your heart sing. Lanny greeted us at the door and Diane Mason, who was in charge that day, showed us around and filled us in on how it works The Soup Kitchen feeds 60 to 80 folks twice a week on Monday and Wednesday from 11:30a till 12:30p. With a count of 27 volunteers to serve and be of service it is a busy hour for the Church. The day we went they were serving potato soup, chicken gumbo, shepherd’s pie, sandwiches, desserts and wonderful tea. We had the Shepherd’s pie and Gumbo, home made right there in the kitchen yum. Donations and contributions come in from all over. Belle Acres on South Boulevard bring by large bags of potatoes and gallons of tea every week, Home Health Market on South and Trader Joe’s and RBC Bank are big on giving. I spoke with Valorie who had just had surgery and she was so glad to be there she said the food was always great. Randy who shared he loved coming there it made him remember what it was like to have a home. Randy has lived out of his truck for two years. He especially appreciates the real dishes and utensils, and the volunteers are so warm and friendly. Volunteers are from all over, Joel is from Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home, Brent is from CVS a pharmacist, Diane is a professional photographer and the head Chef in charge. Decadent Desserts donates yummy desserts and it’s not uncommon for folks to stop by and drop off food for the pantry and prepared food because they saw the sign out front. We have an innate desire to be of service, here is your chance. Everyone and all donations are welcome.

NEW SPRINT STORE IN DILWORTH
1235 EAST BLVD. 704 334 0560

Tony Soufi the owner of the new Sprint Store in Dilworth invites everyone to visit his new Sprint store in the Harris Teeter shopping center on East Blvd. He is delighted to be here in Dilworth to serve any and all cell phone users. He has everything in his shop all the accessories you can think of and someone is always there to assist you with all your cell phone needs. Tony also owns another Sprint store in Indian Trail with much experience in his field. So many times we have gone to get help or need to purchase something we need and don’t really get what we need. We don’t find this to be true with Tony’s store. The deals he is offering is limitless. Being new on the block he is giving great incentives to purchase Sprint services and accessories. So check it out there is always ways to save and improve at the same time.

COUTIERE’ DRESSMAKER IN DILWORTH

Suzanne Sigmon a longtime resident of Dilworth is one of the few dressmakers we have had the pleasure of knowing. She has been designing and making clothes for more than 40 years. She has her degree in Theatre Costume Design and worked in theatre in NYC before moving to Charlotte. She worked at Creative Couture on Kings Drive some years ago after which she opened her own shop working out of her home on Worthington Avenue and has quite a following. She specializes in tailoring and pattern drafting, and when it comes to bridal gowns, she first makes the gown from muslin before cutting into material that could cost up to 500.00 a yard. Clients provide material and can bring a photo of what they want and she takes it from there. The most beautiful material she works with comes from Europe. She will make you a skirt, jacket, pants or dress, prices start at 100.00. Her love is wedding gowns which she does the beading and all the detail work. She loves Dilworth, when I asked her what makes Dilworth so special she said “I have the best neighbors in the world, always take care of your neighbors.” Suzanne can be reached at 704.333.0015

131 MAIN RESTAURANT
1315 EAST BOULEVARD 704.343.0131

What a fabulous time we had at 131 Main in Dilworth on the patio. JC Thomas Marketing and Communications, owners of theMythbusted.com sponsored the event. The idea being, to bust the myth that parking was difficult, which we found to be plentiful for that area of Dilworth. Check it out the findings on their website. We were there having complimentary cocktails and yummy appetizers rubbing elbows with a lot of pretty people. We sat with two gorgeous models from Carolina Talent and met other professionals and folks involved in the talent and entertainment industry. 131 Main’s menu consists of delectable starters, including seared scallops my favorite, entrees include, grilled trout, salmon, prime rib and much more, salads, sandwiches and fabulous desserts. The Restaurant is beautiful inside a little different than when it was Patou’s. If you dine there from 4p until 6p Sunday thru Thursday treat yourself to a 3 course meal for 15.00. 131 Main has three other locations to visit see their website for details. See you there.
